  1. Texas, 5-0

Not exactly what Longhorn fans were expecting, but never really in doubt either as Texas pulls out the comfortable 35-13 win over Mississippi State for its first SEC win. More to come.

Woah, what a crazy game! After building a huge first half lead, the Tide had to hold on for a 41-34 victory over Georgia. Next up is an improved Vandy squad.

  5. Georgia, 3-1

The Bulldogs suffered defeat thanks in large part to a putrid first half (and Ryan Williams), falling 34-41 to Bama. If second half Georgia shows up the rest of the season, however, watch out.

  6. Penn State, 4-0

Penn State’s stifling defense continued in a 21-7 win over Illinois. The question remains if they have enough offense to contend with the likes of Ohio State.

  7. Oregon, 4-0

The Ducks continued their momentum with a road win, 34-13 at UCLA. Look for a similar result ahead of their highly anticipated matchup with Ohio State in a couple weeks.

  8. Miami, 5-0

Miami finally showed signs of vulnerability in escaping Virginia Tech with a 38-34 victory in what was a wild and controversial finish. Still the ACC favorite but the doubts begin to creep in.

  10. Michigan, 4-1

Another close call for the Wolverines, who are still undefeated in Big 10 play by the way - 27-24 over Minnesota. But the same offensive problems remain.

  11. USC, 3-1

SC rebounded from the Michigan loss with a strong 2nd half performance to put away the Badgers, 38-21. Still unsure what to make of Lincoln Riley’s latest squad.
