Heisman Race: Week 4
Michael Penix, Jr., QB, Washington
There’s no more denying that Penix has been the best player in the country this year. In the win over Cal, he finished with 304 yards passing for 4 TDs and 1 INT in just 3 quarters of action. He’ll get his first real test in a couple weeks with Oregon coming to town.
Caleb Williams, QB, USC
Williams had an off game for his standards and still finished with 322 passing yards and 3 TDs to 0 INTs as USC held off Arizona State. His run for a second consecutive Heisman trophy will be tested as the PAC-12 still features 5 unbeaten teams.
Bo Nix, Jr., QB, Oregon
Dan Lanning may have done his talking in the locker room but Bo Nix has done it on the field. He threw for 276 yards with 3 TDs and 1 INT on Saturday as Oregon crushed Colorado. This included a hyper-efficient 85% completion rate. He should pad his stats further as the Ducks go to Stanford this week.
Jordan Travis, QB, Florida State
Florida State once again survived an upset bid on the road, and Travis was key down the final stretches, throwing for 289 yards and 2 TDs with no INTs. There are red flags aplenty for the Noles right now but Travis has earned a spot here through the first four games. FSU will probably need to go to the playoff for him to have a chance to win this award.
Quinn Ewers, QB, Texas
Quinn was very efficient and made some good downfield throws in the win over Baylor. He finished with 293 yards passing on a 78% completion clip for 1 TD and 0 INTs, and also added a 29-yard rushing touchdown. The performance was good for a 96.2 QBR (out of 100), among the best of the week for any QB. The next two weeks will prove vital for Ewers’ chances as our Horns face an undefeated Kansas at home and then get the Sooners in Big D for Red River.
