Heisman Race: Week 6
Caleb Williams, QB, USC
Caleb remains atop my Heisman standings with a narrow victory over Arizona in which he accounted for 4 TDs and the game-winning two-point conversion. He has now accounted for 28 total touchdowns on the season with just 2 turnovers. It’s crazy to think where USC would be without him.
Michael Penix, Jr., QB, Washington
Washington and Penix had the week off but he will now get his best chance of the season to impress Heisman voters with the game against Oregon.
Dillon Gabriel, QB, Oklahoma
When you play like that on a stage like that, you will earn some respect. DG did just that, becoming the first OU quarterback to throw for over 250 and rush for over 100 in the Red River game. Also led the game-winning drive in the final minute. True contender now as Oklahoma’s schedule opens up for a possible CFP run.
Bo Nix, QB, Oregon
Nix is in the same boat as the above mentioned Penix - the winner of the game against Washington will likely produce a Heisman leader, barring one of them having a sensational game in a losing effort.
Jayden Daniels, QB, North Carolina
Jayden Daniels cracks the top 5 here for the first time this season as LSU beat Mizzou. Daniels had another hyper efficient game, and despite LSU’s 3-2 record has been one of the premier players in college football this year. He sits 4th in the nation in QBR and 3rd in passing yards, with 19 TDs to just 2 INTs. The Tigers’ losses may hinder him for the award ultimately.
