Game Awards: Kansas

Offensive Player of the Game

Jonathon Brooks, RB (So.) - Brooks ripped off a 67-yard run and an additional 54-yarder for a touchdown on his way to a career high 218 rushing yards on just 21 carries. This guy continues to punish defenders and then leave them in his wake. He now sits 3rd in all of FBS in rushing. We’ve got a serious dude here - more on that shortly.

Breakout Player of the Game

Adonai Mitchell, WR (Jr.) - Mitchell receives my first breakout player award for his performance on Saturday. Now, this isn’t the first we’ve heard of him this season - he’s had a few big moments particularly in the Alabama game. But against Kansas he hauled in 10 catches for 141 yards - he had previously made 3 receptions in each of the first 4 games, and this nearly doubled his highest previous yardage output. As Adonai potentially establishes himself as a bonafide #2 guy this year behind Worthy, it spells double trouble for the remaining opposing defenses on Texas’ schedule.

Turning Point of the Game

Jahdae Barron, DB (Sr.) - The point where Texas never looked back came on a 4th and 1 attempt by the Jayhawks, trailing just 20-14. QB Jason Bean and RB Daniel Hishaw messed up the exchange, and Barron pounced on the loose ball, giving possession to the Longhorns. It would have made things interesting had Kansas been able to pick it up and gotten points out of that drive - instead Texas got a short field and went back up 2 scores, never again surrendering a point on the day.

HIM of the Game - This award goes to the player showing the most toughness, grit, and true Texas Fight in a winning effort

Jonathan Brooks, RB (So.) - Could it be anyone else? Brooks tallies his 2nd HIM in the last 3 games after his monster performance. He consistently creates yards after contact and has displayed a combination of speed and power at running back that I’m not sure Texas has seen in a long while. The names Cedric and Ricky come to mind. JB is HIM!

Hook ‘em. OU still sucks.
